How does the first meeting go? How should I prepare as a potential client?

The first meeting is usually online. In the first meeting we get to know each other, find out the requirements and expectations of the beneficiary and showcase the progress of the project. If this first meeting takes place before the space is measured by our team, the beneficiary provides us with the plans of the apartment/house/space that we would furnish. If the meeting with the client occurs after our team has taken the measurements and created the 2D furnishing plan, we focus specifically on discussing the furnishing plan. The clients already receive the “design theme” in advance from us, which helps establish the furnishing style together during that meeting.

What are the steps/stages of an interior design process and how does iDecorate approach a project?

The steps are simple, and the manner of approaching and carrying out the project depends on how the client chooses to communicate with us.

The first step is the offer. Based on the plans received on our email and the reference images for the design style, we send our financial proposal to our client. After the proposal is approved, the contract is signed. Once the contract is signed, we schedule a day for our colleagues to take the measurements. We measure the space, while receiving the design brief from the client.

The second step is to meet with the beneficiary to determine how the project will evolve. The 2D plan, furnishings, space limitations and the various options are discussed, as well as the references and the beneficiary’s design style/desires.

The third step is reflected by 3D simulations. Once the final furnishing option of the 2D plan is established (Phase 1 of the project), we move on to Phase 2, namely the 3D simulations. In this stage (the stage that also involves the longest working time), the chromatics, the ambiance, the furnishing style and the furniture are established. The project is handed over entirely to the beneficiary so he can see it as a whole and get an image of the final result. We never hand it over in pieces or areas of the arrangement. After handing over the 3D project, we discuss the 3D simulations with our client, and decide together if there are any chromatic or overall changes that should be considered and bring the project to the optimal version both from a functional and compositional point of view.

The completion of the 3D stage coincides with the fourth step and the beginning of Phase 3 – the furniture detailing phase. There are two options to choose from when it comes to the furniture detailing. In the 2D version, the client receives 2D drawings with overall dimensions and color codes to send the project for quotation to furniture manufacturers. Alternatively, the client can opt for the 3D version of the furniture drawings, which includes 3D renderings of the furniture pieces with internal compartmentalization and material specifications, also for obtaining supplier quotes.

After finalizing the 3D simulations, we also start working on the technical plans: ceiling plans (if light fixtures are included), finishes, plasterboard details, niches, electrical, plumbing, and heating fixture positioning plans, as well as finishing plans (in form of wallpaper or paint).

In parallel with Phase 3, Phase 4 (the budget estimate) is carried out as well, which involves the fifth step – here we send requests to the suppliers with whom we constantly work to get offers for custom-made elements: bespoke furniture, curtain and drapery fabrication and installation, finishes (tiles, parquet, paint), and sanitary fixtures. In addition to these offers, we send the beneficiary a complete, room-structured budget estimate, which includes all the objects that we used in the 3D simulations: size, color code, price, number of pieces, purchase link.

At the end of the project, if the client respects the received budget estimate and our information without changing it, the space will look exactly as in the 3D simulations agreed in Phase 2. For the recipients who want a complete package, we can add, upon request and in addition to the concept, the project implementation part (order correlation and tracking) and site monitoring (regular site visits to monitor the main phases of the project).

Do you also handle ‘turnkey’ arrangements?

Yes, our portfolio includes such projects as well. These projects contain, in addition to the concept part, the implementation and site monitoring part. We come to the client with complete service proposals and teams of builders to deliver successful “turnkey” projects.

At what stage of the project is it ideal for a potential client to get in touch with you?

If we are talking about a build from scratch, it is preferable to be contacted before the installations are carried out on site, but after the walls are placed. We have many projects in which we take over the houses right from the foundation stage, because the beneficiaries want to be certain that they have gathered all the important details from the beginning.

How long does an interior design project take?

The concept and detailing part of an interior design project usually takes, without execution, approximately 2-3 months. Execution and implementation are different stages. It is necessary to understand that this is about creation. We offer our clients unique projects, created and customized for them, and this is not an easy task that you can fulfill quickly. Also, each phase involves a period of feedback from the beneficiary, which we must take into account, as it involves an intermediate period between the design phases.

It is important that the project starts early, so that the client has enough time to think and respond.

It is also important to follow the steps for developing a design project: the interior design project (which includes the concept, technical plans, quantities, and finishes). Based on the entire project, we request bids from contractors. The contractor begins work on-site once we have the entire project (technical plans, details, and offers for finishes and sanitary facilities). Afterward, the finishes are ordered. Once the design work is completed, the installation of finishes, ceilings, and painting takes place, followed by the ordering of bespoke furniture and other items. Custom-made furniture is never ordered before the space is finished.

What should the client expect when working with you?

First of all, the beneficiary must be aware that chose us due to our experience. Our projects are backed by a team of professionals with 15 years of experience in the field and a degree in the industry. The client must be open to the idea of collaboration, to be aware that this type of project is the sum of elements that are discussed in the first place, and reach their final form after an exchange of ideas and opinions. There is no such thing as a “guessed” project from the start or a custom-made project executed in a very short amount of time.

If you have any other questions or concerns, send us an email at irina@idecorate.ro.

Fusion Style in Interior Design

Fusion style is a mix of new and old design aspects: pastel shades with bold hues, chandeliers with spotlights, straight lines with curved lines. Fusion style is considered eccentric mainly due to the fact that it combines elements that are so different, but the result it reflects is visually harmonious and pleasant.

One of the advantages of the fusion style is that it be applied using inexpensive solutions, evoking an unexpected atmosphere. Therefore, a velvet or silk cushion, a vintage lamp and an old rug can transform a simple space into a precious and unique one. This style is especially suitable for apartments, due to the fact that it is much easier to implement in small spaces than in houses, for example. The fusion style is very suitable for creative and bold people because it consists of putting your personal stamp on the decor of the space and defining your style.

Harmony and simplicity rule the fusion style. All decorative elements, textures, colors, materials must be in harmony and complement each other into the decor. The fusion style is built from simple, unsophisticated elements that gain their value through quality and age. For example, Persian rugs, velvet curtains, or vintage objects give the space personality and style, perfectly fitting in a room decorated in fusion style.

The fusion style is highlighted by an explosion of color. The specific shades of this style are the visually powerful ones, the ones that add personality, dynamics and life to the space itself: green, turquoise, pink, orange, yellow, gold, or red.

Simple and refined decor, as well as rich and precious textiles play an extremely important role in approaching the fusion style. Decorative pillows covered in velvet or silk, beautifully maintained Persian rugs, generous velvet curtains, and textiles with plant or animal prints can transform a trivial space into a precious, even luxurious one. Vintage decorations and antiques bring a unique charm to the space – a small vase, a candlestick, a vintage lamp, or an old wall clock.

The fusion style consists of a simple approach, it is a plain and comfortable style, with a few precious standard aspects. The fusion style brings together luxury and simplicity, two attributes that even if at first glance seem impossible to merge. They complement each other very well.

Neutral and Timelessly Designed 4-Bedroom Apartment

Many people can’t decide when it comes to colors and styles in their home decor, but they know that they want a home that offers a sense of well-being, comfort, and warmth. Today, we would like to showcase a 4-bedroom apartment, where we chose a neutral and timeless design approach. In the end, this style beautifully translates into the home’s intimacy, excellently reflecting the owners’ personality and style.

The apartment is divided into an open-plan living area, which includes the kitchen, living room and dining area, along with three other rooms (the master bedroom, the child’s bedroom and the dressing room/office) and two bathrooms. The owners wanted a modern, calm, elegant interior but not too busy or opulent. They wanted it to be functionally arranged and as orderly as possible, a comfortable and harmonious environment.

The entrance hall separates the different areas of the apartment – the day and night areas. For the floor, we chose a light-colored parquet, with walls and doors which are white so that the hall would be as bright as possible. The storage space is generous, and the cabinet doors, placed directly across from the living room, are covered with large mirrors to visually expand the space.

When you step into the living area, your eyes immediately focus on the sofa and dining area. All the furniture in the living room and dining area is placed in a manner that allows the window area to remain unobstructed, so that natural light can flow in as much as possible, creating a sense of greater spaciousness.

All surfaces are decorated with fabrics in neutral colors, with small accents of color (the chairs in the dining area) and generous curtains that amplify the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the state of comfort. The radiator hidden by the ribbing and the column that separates the living room from the kitchen, accessorized with ribbing, enhance the atmosphere. The TV area was decorated with custom-made furniture. Thus, a visual connection was created with the kitchen through similar finishes.

Since the living room is open to the kitchen, we chose to connect the functionality through the dining area, so the kitchen was decorated simply and neutrally. The kitchen has an island with a countertop facing the living room, to supplement the storage space. The furniture is custom-made, and the appliances are incorporated so that the overall aspect is as orderly as possible. To the left of the island, in the free space left next to the refrigerator, we organized a place for glasses. Arranged like a display case, this detail complements the overall design and emphasizes the vertical space.

The master bedroom has been given a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere through the upholstered bed in a pleasant shade of blue and the wall behind the bed, covered with wallpaper in a neutral tone featuring a subtle pattern. The lighting was designed in a manner that enhances the environment, especially in the evening.

The large drapes that we used highlight the room’s vertical space, and the armchair in a strong orange shade enhances the decor. The chest of drawers in front of the bed and the bedside tables were designed without handles, so as to visually harmonize the place and provide the same feeling of orderly space.

The child’s bedroom was designed taking into account both the environment and the decor in the rest of the home, as well as the child’s age. The furniture chosen is white, with generous storage space. The bed was chosen as a playhouse model to enhance the importance of a child’s playing time, and as for the wall behind the bed we chose a white and gray photo wallpaper with a simple pattern.

The fourth room is furnished with a dressing room and a desk, playing a dual role. For the wall behind the sofa, we chose a geometric wallpaper so that the room would be more dynamic. The color scheme complements the entire environment of the apartment. The color accents in the sofa area harmoniously enhance the dynamics of the space.

The child’s bathroom was designed with a built-in bathtub, choosing terrazzo for both the bathtub and the wall behind it. The washbasin furniture was chosen to be suspended, helping to visually enlarge the space by leaving the floor exposed. Additionally, for the same feeling of large space and brightness, we chose natural brown flooring and white walls.

The main bathroom was designed in a light gray shade and a wood-like texture which we used for both the sink and toilet area, as well as the shower. For the sink area, we chose built-in and suspended storage. The tiling in the shower area was designed to give the feeling of depth even if in a small space.

The owners wanted a contemporary and timeless environment, with a few features that reflect their personality. The great attention to detail, the custom-made furniture and each space organized as functionally as possible make everything very well proportioned. The finishes and color scheme blend perfectly with the textures that we used. Therefore, the result reflects a modern and welcoming apartment.

Interior Design Trends in 2021

The past year has been a year of many changes, a year in which we spent more time at home. For this reason, many people have realized how important it is for their home to be comfortable and to express their personality. The year 2021 brings several trends in interior design, and if you are among those who want to rearrange your home this year, take into account the tips and ideas we will present in the following lines to transform your home into your oasis of relaxation.

Functionality
In 2021, we will see more and more houses with a much more functional design. Since the office has moved in our homes, it is necessary to arrange the workspace in a way that offers you all the comfort. Even if the space does not allow to opt for a generous workspace, you do not have to limit yourself in terms of style. Be creative and use unexplored spaces in the room for a well-organized office: choose shelves and built-in cabinets for files, papers or books, which you can mount above and around the desk.

Multifunctional furniture is also present in the trends of 2021. A folding table can also be used as a desk and can be hidden when you don’t need it. Multifunctional furniture is great for people who don’t have generous spaces in their home because it saves considerable space when not in use.

Shades and Colors
The colors of 2021 revolve around an earthy palette: shades of brown, rust, green and yellow. The emphasis is on decorations that bring nature into the home to create extra comfort and relaxation. Ocean shades are also present in 2021, already knowing that blue offers a state of tranquility and comfort. As a base shade, gray is the winner in 2021, a cool and neutral color. An interior in shades of gray will be clean and elegant, and if you add shades of rust, blue or green you will get a modern atmosphere.

Materials
The top materials for interior design in 2021 are wood, glass, stone and metal.

Wood is a unique material due to its different shades and small imperfections when used in its raw state. Wood is the most commonly used material, selected for finishing floors, walls but also for making furniture and it is no wonder that it remains at the top in 2021.

Glass is the perfect material to divide rooms, allowing natural light to flow in and visually enlarge the space. Glass furniture is a trend for 2021 and will beautify any corner of your home. If you want to add a unique touch, you can choose to cover your walls with ceramic printed glass or colored glass.

Stone is a highly appreciated material in interior design. It is used especially in the rustic style and you can choose from a large range of options: unfinished stone with sharp edges, or polished finished stone, or raw stone blocks with a rough surface. For a unique and different look, choose to use stone for arches or walls, sink, fireplace, or select furniture and decorations made of stone: lamp bases, candlesticks, coffee table.

Metal, along with other materials, gives a special touch to the room, an elegant and industrial look. Metals like bronze, copper, brass are the most popular in 2021 and work perfectly with glass, marble, velvet or wood.

Styles
Industrial style created with unfinished concrete pieces, wood, and metal lighting fixtures will be trending in 2021.

Additionally, the rustic-modern style is a trend of this year as well, which can be easily integrated into homes that have special features, such as original flooring, beams, a balance between old and new aspects.

Have you thought about renovating your home in 2021? What are your choices?

Trends: Mountain Style Interior Design

The mountain style is found especially in the design of holiday homes or chalets in mountainous areas. This design style is characterized by several specific elements, such as wood, natural stone, or natural textiles (linen, cotton or wool fabrics). More specifically, the mountain style is highlighted by massive-looking elements, supported by a color palette consisting of warm neutral shades and dark woody shades.

Furniture and materials
When designing a mountain-style space, we recommend light-colored furniture, with white being the ideal choice as it can be easily combined with other textures. To complement the decor, choose wooden shelves mounted on the wall and a solid wood chest of drawers, and if space allows, you can install solid wood beams in different areas of the house, where you can later attach various decorations. In addition to solid wood as the central material in this type of design, choose to support its massiveness with other natural materials, such as stone, leather, fur.

Colors
The color scheme in the mountain style is based on warm natural shades, inspired by natural elements (stone, wood, plant elements). The most suitable colors for decorating a mountain style home are beige, brown, dark green, brick. For a splash of vibrant color, the aforementioned neutral shades can be combined with tones of red, yellow or navy blue, for a surprising stylistic effect.

Floors, walls, ceiling
In the mountain style, the walls, ceiling and floors have some stylistic standards that must be taken into account so that the result is the desired one. For floors, unfinished solid wood is the best option, and you can place a handmade wool rug over the floor. In the case of walls, the mountain style is based on neutral shades, such as cream-white, butter-white, dusty blue. As for the ceiling, it must contain structural elements specific to the mountain style, such as wooden beams that can be painted in natural shades.

Decorations
Decorative elements are extremely important in arranging a space in a mountain style. Natural elements, such as fir cones, garlands of dried orange slices, wooden baskets with dried fruits, lighting fixtures with straw or wooden lampshades, photo frames made of unfinished wood, are ideal choices for decorating the living room, for example. Textile elements, such as handmade rugs, furs on the solid wood floor or on the walls, mats, decorative pillows or curtains made of natural materials (canvas, wool, cotton) enhance the space arranged in a mountain style.

The mountain style can be highlighted, without a doubt, by warmth and simplicity. Even though in its pure form it is only found in holiday homes or chalets, this design style can offer a unique air to any room.

How to Set the Holiday Table

We are in the magical season when we can express our festive spirit through everything we do, including setting the Christmas table, which is one of the main concerns. We have prepared some tips and ideas on how you can achieve an excellent look and atmosphere in accordance with this season, offering extra inspiration for arranging and decorating your holiday table.

The first thing you need to do when you start setting your holiday table is to come up with a stylish and cohesive theme. This theme can be chosen based on the style of your home or the menu you’ve decided on.

After choosing the theme, you can move on to the next step – the actual decoration. Here you need to consider whether you want to highlight the tableware or the food. We recommend opting for plain white tableware or with a few gold, silver or red inserts, in order to complement the menu without overwhelming it. You can bring in color with the help of certain objects, such as glasses, textiles and other elements (candles, fir branches, flowers).

In addition to colors, textures are also very important, offering harmony and balance between the finishes. For example, if you choose shiny tableware, go for a tablecloth and napkins made from natural materials to balance the look. Additionally, pay attention to the decorations that you select in order to obtain a balanced look in terms of textures.

As for lunch, we recommend to opt for a table runner and napkins over the tablecloth. Add candles, candlesticks and natural decorations and then combine them with ceramic plates and bowls.

White or glass tableware, candlesticks, dried orange slices or any natural decoration (cotton flowers, cones) will add an extra festive touch to the holiday table. Candles in warm shades, fir branches and golden ornaments create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, which perfectly complements the Christmas spirit.

So, decide what style and theme you want to apply, then choose the colors and textures, harmonizing everything in an arrangement that will impress your loved ones. That will certainly make your holidays even more beautiful.

Our Work – 250 sqm Home Designed for a Young Family

We are curious, what does the house you have always dreamed of look like? Who knows, maybe you already live in it but you don’t realize it or maybe you can’t obtain the ambiance you want. That’s why it’s best to turn to an interior designer who brings a fresh perspective to your home while still aligning with your style and vision. This was the case with the family whose house we will showcase in the following lines. The owners contacted us and we decorated their 250 sqm house, arranged on ground and first floors, in a modern style with precious accents and minimalist areas. Come see the result that we achieved!

The house’s entryway seamlessly connects with the living and dining spaces. We arranged the hall in an organized manner, creating a pleasant and calm environment. We chose a simple chest of drawers for decorations, a mirror of the same texture and an emerald green sofa to enhance the atmosphere.

The house’s ground floor, consisting of the living room and dining area, is decorated in a coherent style, in tones of white and natural wood, with accents of purple, green, gray and pink, which are found in both the furniture and the decorative elements.

The ample space in the living room and dining area enabled us to place a large table for six and a spacious sofa. The furniture is white, simple and placed on the entire wall next to the window, seamlessly extending into a matching TV console. The interior staircase was concealed using slatted panels, which were used for the wall behind the TV as well.

Additionally, the kitchen is also on the main floor, separated from the rest of the ground floor by full-height glass windows for a visual effect of greater space. The kitchen is decorated in a modern style, in shades of black and white. For a unique accent, we coated the wall next to the door with cement-type paint. Organizing the furniture along the entire wall where the window is located gives depth to the space. The furniture was custom-made and was designed without handles for the cabinets and drawers, precisely to create an orderly appearance. The appliances are built-in and, because the space allowed it and in order to complement the decor, we also designed a dining area for four people here.

The two bedrooms are decorated in a contemporary, modern style with unique accents. For a contrast of textures and an extra touch of elegance, we chose to paint the wall behind the bed with cement-type paint, adding a special finish.

The lighting fixtures were designed to create a restful space. The beds in both bedrooms are simple, contemporary and upholstered, for extra comfort. The mirrors visually enlarge the space, and the color palette that we used adds elegance to the rooms.

The child’s room was decorated taking into account the child’s age and the decor in the rest of the house, adapting the color scheme a little in order to keep the visual coherence. In addition to white and gray, we inserted tones of green and blue on the wall behind the bed.

Both bathrooms were treated as simply and elegantly as possible, creating a timeless atmosphere with the help of marble finishes and selected sanitary ware.

Our Work – Bright 3-Bedroom Apartment with Yellow and Blue Accents

When you want to furnish your home, the biggest challenge is defining your vision for the interior design. Beyond style, colors, finishes, furniture, the functionality of the space is important as well. Today we present you the design project of an apartment with a generous space of approximately 90sqm, for which we wanted to obtain a timeless design, in which industrial elements would blend perfectly with elegant ones, and the main requirement was to achieve the most generous spaces for storage and come up with innovative solutions in this regard.

Spacious Apartment Designed for a Bright and Inviting Atmosphere

Living Room
The real challenge was designing the living room – a spacious and very welcoming room with glam accents, where we integrated a large extendable sofa, a bar and a dining area for eight people. Due to the fact that the space was quite small, we opted for an extendable coffee table (a table that converts into a dining table). The royal blue sofa serves as the standout accent in the living room The TV stand and the hanging cabinets on the same wall harmoniously complement the space.

The Master Bedroom

The master bedroom’s design was intended to be bright, with an imposing bed full of personality. We opted for an industrial design, while the royal blue upholstered bed adds a glamorous and elegant touch to the room. For industrial accents, we used a concrete-effect paint for the wall behind the bed, thus maintaining the visual harmony with the ceiling. To preserve the spaciousness and brightness of the room, we opted for compact furniture, without unnecessarily burdening the space.

Secondary Bedroom

The second bedroom is a hybrid room: a dressing room for the owners and a welcoming bedroom for guests. As finishes, we chose decorative paint to create the striped wall behind the sofa, the chosen color range being white and gray. To visually enlarge the space, we chose to cover the wardrobe doors with mirrors.

The Kitchen

The owners wanted a special kitchen, unique and attractive, but at the same time minimalist. We opted for a black and white combination (used for the furniture and the print on the floor), as well as for yellow accents. The kitchen was designed from the beginning for generous storage, with built-in placement of household appliances.

Hallway

For the hallway, we chose a hanging storage unit to avoid cluttering the space. We accessorized one of the walls with a large painting to personalize this space as well.

The Bathroom

For the bathroom, we opted for an elegant design, with gold and concrete gray accents. The bathroom was designed with generous storage space under the sink area. The colors complement the modern design of the room, while the mirrors visually enlarge the space.

Therefore, we created a harmonious environment, in neutral shades of white, gray and black. The final design is timeless and glam. The addition of yellow and blue accents through furniture pieces, decorative objects and wall paint, was carefully thought of so that the result would meet our client’s expectations.

Trends: Metallic Accents in Interior Design

In interior design, metallic accents integrated into a room’s decor will completely transform the room’s appearance, adding a glam and luxurious touch. The secret? Mix the materials correctly, and the palette of metallic accents will be in harmony with any style of interior design. For example, in modern interiors, shiny metallic accents can create a luxurious setting, while in industrial interiors, matte, polished metallic accents are the ones that give a unique look to the interior design.

Metallic Accents in the Interior Design Project of a Four-Room Apartment in Dubai

What Are the Metallic Shades?

Metallic shades add brightness to a dark room and bring a sophisticated and personality-filled touch to any decor. Metallic shades are varied and have different finishes – bronze, gold, silver (matte shade), stainless steel (glossy shade), aluminum, steel, chrome, copper, brass, iron, nickel. However, any glossy surface can exhibit metallic reflections if its brightness changes depending on the angle of the surface relative to the light source. Thus, in addition to the classic metallic shades, you can add other metallic shades to your home decor, such as metallic green, metallic blue, metallic orange. To outline a modern ambiance, you can use a few metallic details in cool shades (silver, steel, nickel). In contrast, warm metallic shades (metallic pink or gold) outline a refined and welcoming room.

Combine Metallic Shades

If in the past, interior design rules did not allow you to combine multiple metallic shades in one room, now things are different, you can do that while respecting one important rule: do not combine multiple metallic shades in equal proportions, but choose a single dominant metallic shade and a maximum of other two accent metallic shades to maintain visual balance in the room. When combining metallic shades, choose them so that they excellently work together, balancing warm dominants with cool accents and vice versa.

A combination of golden metallic accents (on the wall and mirror frames) with silver metallic accents (on the table legs)

Balance

It’s best to choose one dominant metallic shade and enhance it with two or three other accent metallic shades, placing them evenly throughout the room. For example, incorporate metallic shades at the bottom of the room (at floor or sofa level), higher up on the wall (in picture frames or mirrors, for example), and close to the ceiling (in light fixtures).

Metallic Shades and Delicate Textures

To soften the shine of metallic shades without losing their charm, you can choose to combine them with natural textures, such as wool or velvet. Wood beautifully compliments the metallic shades specific to the industrial style.

“Less is more” is the rule that guides the choice of metallic shades. So, follow this rule, combine metallic shades that highlight each other and create a balance by taming the metallic shades with delicate and natural textures. Keep certain proportions and you will transform your home decor into an elegant and harmonious one.
