Chipboard, MDF, and Wood: What They Are, Their Differences, and How to Choose Based on Room Purpose

The furniture market is constantly evolving. We find a wide variety of furniture types and materials used in manufacturing nowadays. The market offers such a vast variety that it often makes choosing and deciding more challenging. To be sure that you select the right furniture for your home, you must take into account an extremely important aspect: the material and finish it is made of. There is no perfect material, each has advantages as well as disadvantages, but opt for the option that best fits the design of your home.

Three-Room Apartment Design Project in Dubai

So, in today’s article we will talk about a dilemma that frequently arises when it comes to home decoration: what material do we choose for furniture? – Chipboard, MDF or Wood?

Chipboard – advantages, disadvantages, where can I use it?

Chipboard has been a very popular material lately. The range of furniture types made from this material is very diverse, with chipboard integrating well into spaces such as the living room, bedroom, or kitchen.

As advantages, chipboard furniture is financially accessible, it is available in a wide range of colors, textures and patterns, it is lightweight, which makes it very easy to assemble and disassemble, and, last but not least, it is easy to maintain.

Bedroom Designed with Chipboard Furniture – Three-Room Apartment Design Project in Dubai

One of the main disadvantages of chipboard furniture is its lower durability over time, as well as its susceptibility to wear, moisture, and extreme temperatures. In addition, it is not suitable for many interior design styles, being more appropriate for modern ones, as chipboard can not be cut or milled too easily.

We recommend chipboard for decorating the living room, bedroom or kitchen and to avoid, as much as possible, using it for bathroom fixtures due to the fact that, not being moisture resistant, it would deteriorate very quickly.

MDF – Advantages, Disadvantages, and Which Rooms It Can Be Used In?

MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is a widely used in the furniture industry material. It is produced from wood powder bonded with glue and compressed. MDF is especially used for making doors or shelves for the kitchen or bathroom due to the fact that it is a moisture-resistant material.

Bathroom Designed with MDF Furniture – House Design Project in Dubai

MDF has moderate resistance over time, much higher than chipboard but lower than that of wood. It is a very easy material to process and finish. It can be painted or laminated. If MDF furniture was scratched or damaged, it could be easily repainted. Moreover, MDF furniture integrates very well into many types of furnishings and can also be used in spaces with high humidity, such as the bathroom or kitchen.

Kitchen Designed with MDF Furniture – House Design Project in Dubai

As a disadvantage, we can add the price, which is somewhat higher, especially if you choose special processing and finishes.

We recommend MDF furniture in any space, from the bathroom and kitchen, to the bedroom, office or living room. It is a material that adapts to any type of interior design. It is also durable and very easy to maintain.

Wood – Advantages, Disadvantages, and Which Rooms It Can Be Used In?

Wooden furniture adds a noble and charming air to the environment, being ideal for classic-style furnishings. When we talk about the advantages of wooden furniture, we emphasize the very high durability over time and resistance, being a good long term choice.

As disadvantages, wooden furniture has a fairly high price, it is sensitive to considerable temperature differences and it is quite difficult to maintain (it must be cleaned with solutions specially designed for wood).

We recommend wood for the kitchen, living room, bathroom or bedroom – it will give a special air to the rooms, especially if you opt for a classic or even minimalist design.

Therefore, if you’re looking for the perfect furniture, we hope this article will help you make the right decision. Properly consider all the pros and cons, make sure what type of furniture is suitable for what you need to obtain and the style of the interior as well, and you can start decorating!

Tips and Tricks – Advice and Ideas for Garden Design

Have you reached the point where you want to take care of your garden? Do you want to transform your garden into a playground for the little ones, a paradise of aromatic plants, or a place of Zen to spend your summer afternoons? We are sure that you have many questions regarding the garden design topic and we hope you will find answers in this article.

The Design Concept

When deciding on the design of your garden, you need to take into account functionality, style and the time you can allocate for garden care.

Many people design their garden as a dedicated space for relaxation, outdoor dining in the summer, gathering with friends, hosting barbecues or parties, or even creating a playground for children. The garden can be designed exactly as you desire even if the space you benefit from is limited in terms of dimensions. The most important thing is to have a clear image regarding the functionality of the garden – you can separate the spaces intended for relaxation, children’s activities and gardening so that you obtain an ideal landscape.

A beautiful garden is reflected by a well-kept garden. If your lifestyle does not allow you to dedicate a few hours a week to caring for plants, trees and other gardening tasks, then it would be best to opt for a plain lawn, which you should mow periodically, as well as a seating and relaxation area. However, you should know that a beautiful garden does not necessarily mean a lot of work – for example, you can choose to plant lavender, which is very easy to maintain: it blooms quickly (the second year after planting), has no pests, is drought-resistant, and only needs to be mowed from time to time.

The aesthetic guidelines that you choose to follow in arranging your garden can be attributed to the landscaping styles. We will showcase some garden landscaping styles that we hope will inspire you:

Minimalist garden – lawn, natural stone paving, simple-line furniture and a reduced and neutral color scheme. This landscaping style is ideal for small gardens and for those who do not have enough time to spend for garden care.

Rustic style garden – wood, traditional elements, colorful flowers – these are the main elements for such a design. So, opt for wicker or wooden furniture, build a wooden path instead of natural stone and decorate the environment with colorful flowers (peonies, tulips, lilacs, petunias). Additionally, if space allows it, a wooden gazebo can become the central element of the garden.

French garden – symmetry and order. In this arrangement, the paths are covered with stones, the bushes are trimmed in straight lines, and the flowers are arranged in a manner that forms various geometric shapes. The artesian fountain is the key element of this arrangement, around which flowers are planted in different shape paths, such as spirals, lines or circles. A garden arranged in the French style is a spectacular one, but you must keep in mind that such an arrangement is more suitable for large gardens, generous in space.

Your Guide to Garden Design

Regardless of the functionality chosen for the garden, the style, or the entire concept of the layout, you should know that designing a garden is rather a long process, especially if you choose to plant fruit trees, flowers, or build the furniture yourself. So, prepare yourself with patience.

– The focal point of the garden – choose one or more focal points for the garden – these can be represented by decorative elements, spectacular plants, a gazebo or a dining area;
– The entrance to the garden should be special, offering an unforgettable impression. Build a wooden or natural stone path, bordered by flowers or shrubs;
– Divide the garden into zones – if you decided that your garden would have several functionalities, divide the space into different zones: dining area, relaxation area, gardening area;
– Delimit the above-mentioned areas with wooden fences, bricks, shrubs, stones or paths;

The care and attention you give to your garden will be reflected in its appearance. The garden will repay by teaching you how to be more connected to nature. Gardening is a complex process, but the feeling you will have at the end, when you see the final result, is priceless.

Hallway Design Guide

The hallway, most of the time a small and dark room, is one of the most underrated areas in the house when it comes to design. Many people do not pay attention to decorating and arranging the hallway, preferring to mainly focus on the arrangement of the living room, kitchen or bedroom. You should know that the entrance hall is not a simple corridor connecting the rest of the rooms, but is the first space you come into contact with when entering the house. A house will never feel welcoming if you have to walk through a dull, uninspiring hallway before reaching a beautifully decorated room.

Home Design Project in Dubai

Hallway Furniture Pieces

Regardless of the decoration’s style you choose, there are a few pieces of furniture that we consider essential when you start decorating the hallway. Shoe rack, hanger, wardrobe, bench, these pieces of furniture (together or separately) combine both the functional and aesthetic aspects.

The wardrobe provides generous space for storing and organizing the clothes you want quick access to. You can choose either a wardrobe with shelves (where you can store bags, scarves, caps and hats, accessories) or a wardrobe with a hanger bar for storing coats, jackets and blazers.

If space does not allow you to choose a piece of furniture which has the size of a wardrobe, then you can opt for a wall-mounted hanger, which can be placed on one of the walls.

A shoe rack is a piece of furniture specially designed for organizing shoes. It is equipped with shelves and storage spaces, being manufactured in different sizes and perhaps the most useful piece of furniture in the entire hallway.

The bench plays both an aesthetic and functional role in the arrangement of the hallway. It brings a pleasant and personalized look to the hallway, but it is also very useful – you can use it when you want to put on your shoes or clean them. You can opt for a simple bench, one with storage space or a special shelf for the shoes you wear more often.

The console is an ideal choice if you are faced with a narrow hallway. In addition to elegance, it has a major impact on the entire hallway setting. You can position it near the wall and it can become the ideal support for decorations or for things you don’t want to forget when you leave home.

Mirrors visually enlarge the space, being an ideal choice for any type of hallway. In addition to its functional role, a mirror will also fulfill an aesthetic role if you choose one with a unique, visually pleasing frame.

Hallway Design According to Its Layout

Long and narrow hallway – probably one of the most challenging configurations, such a hallway resembles more of a corridor, and at first glance, aside from a carpet, a few frames on the walls, and perhaps a hanger, there’s not much else you can include in its design. However, how do you transform this type of dark and not at all welcoming hallway without diminishing its functionality? Paint the walls and ceiling white and choose a dark shade for the wall or door at the end of the hallway to draw the attention “inside”. Choose a rug with horizontal stripes for the floor and, in order not to load the space, choose to decorate only one of the walls. Opt for spotlights recessed into the wall to visually enlarge the space.

Long and Narrow Hallway, White with Wooden Flooring – Villa Design Project in Dubai

Long and Narrow Hallway Designed with White Cabinets and Red Accents – Four-Room Apartment Design Project in Dubai

Long and wide hallway – even though you can apply the same rules as for a long and narrow hallway, in the case of a long and wide hallway you can go further with the arrangement: take advantage of the size of the hallway in order to arrange an office, but be careful not to make it difficult to move from one point to another. You can also design a library in the configuration of a long and wide hallway – install shelves on one or both sides of the hallway and play with asymmetry so as to create a special visual effect. Benches could be a good choice as well, especially since they also give a special charm to the hallway.

Long and Wide Hallway Designed with Cabinets and a Bookshelf – Apartment Design Project in Dubai

Small hallway – regardless of the configuration, some hallways are so small that they seem impossible to arrange. For small hallways, opt to install shelves as close to the ceiling as possible to save space. Choose narrow furniture, such as a shoe rack, a wall-mounted hanger and a large mirror to create the illusion of more space. Also, opt for light colors as much as possible and make sure that the hallway is well-lit.

Small Hallway Designed with a Large Mirror and Console Table – Apartment Design Project in Dubai

Square hallway – in this type of arrangement you can transfer some features of other rooms right into the hallway: set up an area with a small table and chairs or even armchairs if the hallway is large enough, as a socializing area. Here, you can set up a desk or a comfortable place to read as well, or you can opt for a generous wardrobe with mirrors.

Square Hallway Designed with Tall Ceiling-to-Floor Cabinets and Doors Decorated with Mirrors – Apartment Design Project in Dubai

Hallway integrated in the living room and/or kitchen – the most important thing in designing such a hallway is to maintain the continuity of the floor and walls. Moreover, keep the same style of decoration in the hallway as in the living room and/or kitchen and opt for the same color palette.

The hallway is worth putting effort into when it comes to design, especially if you want it to be more than just a storage space or a simple passageway. With the right furniture pieces and a little inspiration, you can transform an ordinary space into one that is both functional and full of personality.

Our Work – 10 Well-Organized Kitchens from Our Projects

Kitchen design can be a real challenge, especially when it comes to open-plan kitchens or apartment kitchens, whose small space is already known. We all want a well-organized, bright kitchen with enough storage space. We have prepared an article with 10 well-organized kitchens from our projects that we hope will inspire you.

1. Kitchen in Classic Lines
This type of kitchen openly connects with the living room. It was fitted with custom-made furniture in a warm shade of beige. The furniture is made of a glossy material that properly reflects light, giving depth to the space. The furniture is designed to run along the entire wall, with floor-to-ceiling doors and simple handles for a neat look. The kitchen is fitted with a bar-type island, which provides minimal visibility from the living room to the worktop and makes the transition to the living area easier.

2. L-Shaped Kitchen
In this kitchen, the window area was left unobstructed in order to allow light to properly flood the space. The matte black furniture (similar to the window frames) creates an airy, open feel. For an orderly look, the furniture was designed with milled handles. The countertop area is extended by an island, and this layout provides minimal visibility to and from the living room while working at the counter. All appliances are built into the furniture. Additionally, for the wall in the worktop area, we opted for gray finishes in order to visually connect the dining zone with the living room. The lighting fixtures in the kitchen add an industrial look to the space.

Villa Design Project in Dubai

3. The Kitchen of a Three-Room Apartment
We present to you a kitchen that is a separate space, not connected to the living room. In apartment buildings, kitchens are not very generous in terms of space, which made us opt for a made up to the ceiling furniture, with milled handles, in tones of green and white, so as not to weigh down the space. Thanks to this choice, we were able to avoid giving up the generous storage spaces. The used finishes are unitary and simple, perfectly complementing the space.

Three-Room Apartment Design Project in Dubai

4. Open Kitchen to the Hallway and Living Room
This kitchen was designed as a cohesive unit with the hallway and living room, with the same basic combination used throughout the rest of the space that the kitchen opens into – gray and wood textures. The large and tall windows allow natural light to flood the space. The lack of a dividing wall allowed us to integrate an island as a place for dining. We created two worktop areas and sufficient storage space in both the suspended and lower cabinets. The furniture was configured according to the project’s plan and to the recipients’ desires.

5. Kitchen Connected to the Living Room Through the Dining Area
Since it opens to the living room, we chose to connect the functionality through the dining area, which is why the kitchen was designed with a simple and neutral decor. The kitchen has an island with a countertop facing the living room, to supplement the storage space. The furniture is custom-made, and the appliances are incorporated so that the overall image is as orderly as possible. To the left of the island, in the free space left next to the refrigerator, we organized a special small area for glasses. Arranged like a display case, this detail complements the ensemble and emphasizes the vertical area of the space.

Apartment Design Project in Dubai

6. Kitchen Separate from the Rest of the Space by Glass Windows
In order to separate the kitchen from the rest of the ground floor, we opted for glass windows, from ceiling to floor, for a visual effect of a greater space. The kitchen is decorated in a modern style, in shades of black and white. For a unique accent, we covered the wall next to the door with cement-like paint. Organizing the furniture along the entire wall where the window is located gives depth to the space. The furniture was custom-made and was designed without handles for the cabinets and drawers, precisely to create an orderly appearance. The appliances are built-in, and since the space allowed, we also added a dining area for four people to enhance the decor.

Villa Design Project in Dubai

7. Simple Kitchen in Neutral Tones
This kitchen, set up in an apartment, has been treated simply, unified and orderly, with a wall decorated with generous custom-made furniture, furniture designed to provide maximum storage. The rest of the kitchen furniture highlights the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The chairs nicely contrast with the natural white and brown shades of the furniture, so that the space is as airy as possible.

Four-Bedroom Apartment Design Project in Dubai

8. Gray-Toned Kitchen
We opted for gray as the main color to break the monotony created by the neutral chosen finishes and the color of the walls. Straight lines, hidden/milled handles or push openings were the choices for the furniture. Instead of the classic tiling, we chose white glass – it is easier to maintain and makes the transition between the base and suspended units more smoothly. To improve the atmosphere, we integrated a unit with open shelves in natural pal in the refrigerator area and in the island zone.

Villa Design Project in Dubai

9. Small but Well-Organized Kitchen
Although small and cramped at first, after the reconfiguration, it became a spacious kitchen, where all the necessary appliances and storage were perfectly integrated. Thus, we opted for organizing a “soldier’s wall” – to incorporate the refrigerator, oven, boiler and to benefit from as many storage spaces as possible. As a chromatic scheme, we opted for white with accents of turquoise, solar yellow and natural wood. The floor was reconditioned and enhanced with the mosaic inspired from the balcony’s used texture.

House Design Project in Dubai

10. Minimalist Kitchen
For this kitchen, we chose a minimalist layout, without open spaces, with furniture that integrates all the necessary appliances. Instead of classic tiles, we opted for white, heat-resistant glass, used to finish the area between the countertop and the suspended units. In order not to visually clutter the space, choosing a table with a glass top was the best option.

Our Work – A House in Dubai, Decorated in Classic Lines, for a Family with Two Children

When you have your own family, the safety and comfort of your loved ones become a priority, and home design is certainly one of them. Today we would like to showcase the home of a family with two children, a girl and a boy. For the house with a ground floor and two additional floors, the owners wanted a functional layout, a classic design, with a welcoming living room and a generous dining table. The final result is in line with the owners’ expectations, a unified, balanced and functional environment. We invite you to read further to see more!

Classic Style Home for a Family with Two Children

The house is organized with a living area on the ground floor, which includes the living room, kitchen, dining area, and a service bathroom. The night area is arranged on the upper two floors, where the bedrooms and additional bathrooms are.

The entrance to the house leads directly into the living area, where the owners wanted a more orderly and airy look. We chose white finishes, parquet flooring and a white-beige color scheme.

The kitchen directly connects with the living room and was decorated with custom-made furniture, in a warm shade of beige. The furniture material is glossy, which reflects light and gives depth to the space. The furniture was designed to span the entire wall, with doors reaching up to the ceiling and simple handles for a neat, orderly appearance. The kitchen is equipped with a bar-type island, which offers minimal visibility from the living room to the worktop and makes the transition to the living area easier.

The living room and dining area are designed as a cohesive space, in beige and white tones, with blue accents found in the decorative pillows on the sofa and a stool. The TV area is one of the most interesting parts in the living room, hosting a bottle display area, highlighted by a different wall finish, but also a fireplace. Although the space is very generous, we chose to enhance the wall behind the sofa with a mirror that gives the feeling of an even greater space.

The living area is efficiently utilized by placing a six-person dining table right next to the windows. In order to obtain a balanced environment, we opted for shades of beige. One of the chairs that we selected has a shade of green, which adds a vibrant visual effect to the space.

The guest bathroom is fitted with ceramic finishes in beige tones, both on the floor and walls. Because the space is not generous enough, we opted for a walk-in shower, toilet and washbasin fitted with suspended furniture in an anthracite grey shade.

The master bedroom is decorated in classic lines, with white as the predominant color. The velvet-upholstered bed, mirror, bench at the foot of the bed, bedside table finishes and chandeliers, they all enhance the classic aesthetic. For the wall behind the bed, we chose a pink decorative wallpaper that perfectly complements the entire environment. The bedroom contains a dressing room as well, equipped with wardrobes spanning the entire width and length of the walls – one of the walls is equipped with wardrobes with white doors, while the other wall is equipped with sliding doors wardrobes disguised with mirrors.

The master bathroom is also decorated in classic lines, with ceramic finishes in a light beige shade, a free-standing bathtub, a walk-in shower and a straight-line washbasin with white furniture. The highlights of the bathroom are the mirror in the washbasin area and the wall in the shower area finished with 3D tiles, thus adding a dynamic look to the bathroom’s design.

The boy’s bedroom is spacious enough, decorated in simple lines. The room is divided into a resting area, featuring an upholstered bed with a wall decorated in light green and white wallpaper, a study area as well, equipped with a spacious desk and ample storage. The wall in the desk’s area and the door were painted in a shade of blue, a color that smoothly makes the transition between the two zones. The wardrobe features doors concealed with mirrors, thus providing the feeling of more spaciousness.

The boy’s bathroom complements the room, with blue and white as the predominant shades. A very interesting element here is the finish chosen for the floor, a tile pattern that resembles parquet. Due to the fact that the bathroom is not very spacious, we opted for a walk-in shower instead of a bathtub.

It may seem like a cliché, but…the little girl’s bedroom is decorated predominantly in pink. Here too, we chose to divide the room into the sleeping area, equipped with an upholstered bed, and the study area, equipped with a white desk that can later be used as a makeup table. In order to keep everything organized, we placed mini-libraries on both sides of the bed. Moreover, the dressing room was equipped with a spacious wardrobe with sliding doors enhanced with mirrors, visually enlarging the space.

The little girl’s bathroom is decorated in the same style as the bedroom, with white and pink as the predominant shades. Here too, we chose a tile pattern that resembles parquet and a walk-in shower.

The final result is in line with the owners’ expectations, a classic, unified, balanced and functional environment.

Home Office – Tips and Design Ideas

For most of us, home has become not only a place of refuge from everyday life but also a space where we now carry out activities we once did at the office. The way you arrange your workspace influences your productivity and well-being. Therefore, try to create a workspace that is separate from other activities such as relaxation, rest and entertainment.

Setting Up an Office in a Corner of the Bedroom

In this context, for many interior design projects we have included and arranged a space for working – whether we are talking about a room intended exclusively for the office or a corner of the bedroom, living room or balcony meant for working from home.

Setting Up a Home Office for Two People – A Space Dedicated Exclusively to Work

So, the first and most important thing in setting up your home office is to clearly separate the work space from the areas meant for household activities, rest or relaxation. This helps you not to get distracted while working and to fulfill your office tasks. Additionally, you won’t associate your resting or relaxation space with work.

Comfortable Chairs and Simple-Line Furniture – Home Office Setup

The desk and chair are the essential pieces you need to set up your home workspace with. You can find a variety of chair and desk models in both physical and online stores, but you must keep in mind that the work area should be a cohesive complementation of your home decor. For a modern design, you can choose a minimalist desk with simple lines. If your home is decorated in a classic style, choose a solid wood desk. On the other hand, the chair should provide you with optimal comfort and help you maintain a proper position throughout the entire time you are sitting at the desk.

Setting Up an Office in the Living Room – A Natural Extension of the Decor

When it comes to lighting, we recommend placing your desk in an area with plenty of natural light, perhaps even on the balcony or in front of a window. Avoid placing your monitor facing the window because this way the light will hit the screen directly and will significantly reduce visibility. When the sun is too strong, curtains can be a lifesaver. Choose an artificial light source and we recommend that you opt for ambient lightning – a table lamp/lamp placed on your desk will not only enhance your desk, but you will also have some light for the evenings that catch you still at the office.

Setting Up an Office by the Window, in the Dressing Area

Moving on to organizing your desk, we know that clutter is the biggest productivity killer. Organize all your objects and documents in storage furniture, such as shelves, dressers, drawers, or even mini-libraries if space allows it. In order to save space, expand your storage furniture vertically rather than horizontally. We recommend that your desk be as open and airy as possible. Organize the items you choose to keep on your desk in trays, holders, or boxes.

Office Set Up in the Bedroom – Organizing the Desk and Storage Spaces for Increased Productivity

Your home office can evolve, whether through improvements to make your work more efficient, changes in your workflow, or a shift in your job. Be as flexible as possible, use your creativity, take into account your real needs, and your home office can become the perfect place to do your work.

The kitchen is a separate space, not being openly connected to the living room. In the building’s apartment, the kitchens are not large at all, which made us opt for a furniture made up to the ceiling, with milled handles, in tones of green and white, so as not to weigh down the space. We did all that without giving up the generous storage spaces. The finishes that we used are unitary and simple, perfectly complementing the space.

The living room, complemented by the dining area, features plenty of storage space, both at the TV stand level and at the high furniture level with doors that reach the ceiling. The whole ensemble is not massive at all, but simply treated, with white, handleless furniture, thus becoming the perfect backdrop for the entire space. The overall image of the living room is an airy and tidy one.

Additionally, natural-looking elements, such as the chair legs in the dining area, the dining table, and the wooden ribbing in the TV stand area, create warmth, defining a welcoming, minimalist space. The dining area complements the kitchen in terms of chosen shades – tones of green, white and natural brown. The living room is enhanced by a pale pink sofa that provides dynamism to the space and complements the entire color palette.

The master bedroom is airy, bright and simple. Although the room is small, the warm shades of green, the white of the furniture and the generous window contribute to creating an airy, restful and welcoming environment. The bed is integrated into the white furniture with green accents and milled handles, creating a sense of order.

The child’s bedroom is arranged according to the age and interests of the little one, adapting the color palette. The main color here is pale pink, which we chose for the walls in the bed area, as well as for the ceiling and decorative objects. The room is divided into the rest area where we placed the bed, and the play area, bright and playful, arranged in the same pale pink tones. All the furniture in the room was custom-made and was placed in a manner which allows that the center of the room remains as free as possible.

One of the main requirements of the owners was to arrange a separate room for an office meant for two people. For this space we chose shades of beige and gray, decorating one of the walls with striped wallpaper to give dynamism to the space. The mirror on the wall decorated with wallpaper and the large windows visually enlarge the space.

One of the two bathrooms has a simple design with ceramic finishes, but the wall in the bathtub area features wood-like finishes, giving the bathroom a unique look. The white furniture, with milled handles, was designed in a manner that provides maximum storage. The wooden accents of the furniture give the space a refined and orderly look.

The second bathroom is fitted with ceramic finishes. For the wall in the toilet area we opted for three-dimensional ceramic tiles that provide a spectacular look to the entire bathroom. For additional dynamism, the wall behind the bathtub was fitted with striped ceramic tiles, in two shades – grey and white. Here, we opted for white furniture with wooden accents as well, offering maximum storage and functionality.

In the end, the space is bright, modern and welcoming. This arrangement is proof that generous storage spaces can be achieved even if the rooms are small. The secret lies in the type of furniture chosen. – it should be as discreet as possible, with furniture that serves as the perfect backdrop for the entire space.

Ideas and Tips for a Feng Shui Interior Design

Most of the time, a Feng Shui-designed home is obtained by combining good taste and style with an optimal approach to space. In other words, Feng Shui style involves arranging furniture and utilizing space in a specific way to create a comfortable and welcoming room. Perhaps for Westerners, the philosophy of Feng Shui is difficult to understand, but the rules of this technique are based on two extremely important and not at all difficult to understand factors: balance and harmony. So, whether you want to design your Feng Shui home for luck, prosperity or health (as the practitioners of this philosophy say) or you want a home where harmony and balance prevail, we have prepared tips and ideas for an ideal design!

What is Feng Shui?

Feng Shui means “wind water” and is an ancient Chinese art of arrangement, where the placement of objects influences the vital Qi energy of a space. If we refer to Feng Shui interior design, it should be noted that Feng Shui reflects an environment designed to create a space where you feel both energized and relaxed, a space that supports your personal growth.

What are the rules of Feng Shui?

We can not say that the philosophy of Feng Shui promotes strict rules, but rather suggestions for arranging the house so that the final result will be a harmonious and balanced decor, regardless of the chosen design style. These design suggestions are very similar to the standard rules that are applied when it comes to arranging a comfortable and harmonious home:

  • The front door should open inward, not outward. Place a painting of flowers, fruits, or plants as close to the entrance as possible, as it symbolizes abundance entering the home. Never place a mirror directly opposite the front door, it can either scare or surprise the person entering the house;
  • Furniture should have symmetrical, regular shapes. In Feng Shui philosophy, a full circle is preferred over a semicircle, and a square is preferred over a rectangle.
  • Make sure that empty spaces in the house are very well lit;
  • Large mirrors placed on the wall must be high enough so as not to visually cut off the legs or head of the person looking in the mirror;
  • Windows and windowsills should always be neat and clean.

Feng Shui design in the living room

The living room, especially when it incorporates the dining area, is an extremely important space in the home. The Feng Shui living room should be located in the center of the house in order to highlight its importance. Choose a large enough dining table, preferably round, with one leg (in Chinese tradition, the dining room table represents the tree of wealth). The table should not be placed under a beam, between two doors, or in a manner that allows to be seen from the main door. To avoid these spots that evoke misfortune (as considered by Feng Shui practitioners), opt for decorative screens and houseplants to place between the table and the door.

Feng Shui Bedroom Design

A Feng Shui bedroom requires paying attention especially to the positioning of the bed. It should be placed in the farthest corner of the room and diagonally to the door. Avoid positioning the bed directly aligned with the door, meaning you should not sleep with your head or feet facing the door. The headboard of the bed is also important, and wooden or upholstered headboards are the most suitable for influencing the energy of the place. Lights in the bedroom should not be positioned above the bed, but rather on either side, on the bedside tables. Ceiling lights should be spread symmetrically and evenly.

Feng Shui Kitchen Design

If you live in a house, the kitchen should be located in a secluded area on the ground floor. Instead, if you live in an apartment, the kitchen is certainly positioned closer to the entrance, so be careful when placing the stove in order not to disrupt the flow of energy in the house – the correct placement of the stove, from a Feng Shui point of view, is diagonally opposite the entrance.

Feng Shui Bathroom Design

For a proper Feng Shui bathroom design, you should focus on the doors – they should not face the house’s front door (according to symbolism, the family’s wealth flows away with the water on Saturdays). However, if you are faced with this situation, there are Feng Shui remedies: paint the door red to evoke positive energy or you can cover it with a mirror.

There are also some Feng Shui decorations that you can opt for in your home decor: mirrors (they visually enlarge the space and provide visibility to certain areas that would otherwise remain hidden), wind chimes (they restore harmony and temper the flow of energy, but never position them next to a door or an arch), or fish tanks (they bring luck, but don’t place them in the kitchen, under beams or facing the front door). Feng Shui plants are important as well, but what you need to know, first of all, is not to keep withered plants in the house (if you don’t have time to take care of them, choose artificial ones): yellow chrysanthemums (they are considered lucky flowers), orchids, peonies, white magnolias and let’s not forget bamboo, a symbol of wisdom.

Feng Shui will bring a new perspective on arranging your home in a balanced and harmonious way. The rules of Feng Shui may be more difficult to understand, but the most important thing is that their goal is to create a comfortable and appropriate arrangement.
