Tips and Ideas for Designing the Entrance Hall

Beyond its functional role, the entrance hall is the first space you come into contact with when you enter a house, the space that sets the tone for the entire home’s decor. A home will never inspire enough harmony if the entrance hall lacks personality and dynamism. The hall can also have a practical purpose, so if you choose the right furniture, the hall will become a place that will impress any guest. We would like to showcase some tips and ideas for arranging the entrance hall so that you can create an original decor.

Suitable color palettes

The color scheme of the hallway should be in harmony with the color scheme used in the rest of the home so as not to cause visual discomfort. Cool and warm shades should equally dominate, without abruptly switching from one tonality to another, and for an ideal color scheme, the primary colors should be supported by complementary ones.

In small spaces, we opt for color schemes in light shades: white, beige, light grays visually enlarge the space. The combination of an accent-colored wall, which is also present in other rooms of the house, and the remaining walls and ceiling painted in a light, neutral shade creates a visually pleasing color scheme. For larger hallways, you can opt for dark shades that also have the advantage of masking possible imperfections: a ceiling that is too high or wall distortions. The harmonious combination of shades in a color scheme gives the space a special atmosphere.

Furniture

The aesthetics of the hallway depend on several factors, including the size of the space and furniture elements, such as the shoe rack, coat hanger and key holder. The simplicity of the placement of furniture items is the key to a pleasant and elegant decor but also to the utility of the space. To give personality to the space, you can add decorative elements such as small rugs, a mirror, shelves, a vase of flowers or scented candles.

Lighting solutions

For a pleasant atmosphere, it is very important to choose the right lighting elements and the right spots to place them. Therefore, we recommend lamps placed on the walls (not on the ceiling), lanterns, sconces, lamps with semi-shades, chandeliers with variable light bulbs.

Hallway design ideas based on size and shape

Narrow hallways – these do not provide you with the proper brightness, but they offer you the advantage of placing narrow and closed furniture pieces where objects are in order and do not visually overload the space: shoe rack, hanger. To visually enlarge the space but also to illuminate it, you can place a mirror in front of a lighting fixture or in front of another room’s door.

Square hallways – in addition to the furniture items that we find in almost any hallway (hanger, shoe rack), you can arrange a coffee table, two armchairs and a bookshelf. To give personality and comfort to the space, you can beautify the atmosphere by placing indoor plants on shelves or directly on the floor, paintings, wall lamps and lighting fixtures.

Long hallways – in addition to the strictly necessary furniture, you can place shelves and bookcases for books or decorative objects. For a touch of elegance, you can choose furniture made of hardwood. Due to the space, closets can be added where you can store a multitude of items that you need as soon as you enter or leave the house.

High hallways – these allow you to choose a tall piece of furniture, close to the ceiling, with shelves. You can add extra personality to the space by placing flower pot stands, and you can put photos as well as paintings on the walls. To enhance this area, don’t forget to add the lighting elements.

Open space hallways – in this case, the decor should be seen as a cohesive whole. Opt for a simple arrangement that respects the color scheme of the living room. The hallway should still offer the functionality that the living room doesn’t provide with, so choose a wardrobe for winter clothes, a shoe rack and hangers.

The hallway is the calling card of a home. It must be functional, not overwhelming and, at the same time, in harmony with the rest of the house. Focus on the features of the hallway and take into account the size when choosing decorations and furniture. Don’t forget the color scheme, which must be in harmony with the rest of the house, but also the lighting solutions for a properly illuminated space.
