When it comes to designing a beauty salon, you must consider several requirements: in addition to the salon’s personalized services, the atmosphere and decor play an important role in the well-being and relaxation of customers. Details are crucial – from the entrance and the welcoming greeting to the colors used in the design. Below, we present our design proposal for the Jovsky Salon, which was finished last year.
In this design, we relied on the interweaving of two concepts: Feng Shui and industrial design. According to the Chinese philosophy of Feng Shui, interior design is not just a simple arrangement of objects in space. On the contrary, it has a strong impact on everyday life. That’s what we wanted to achieve: we took into account the needs, necessities and particularities of a beauty salon and we capitalized on each space, studying colors and textures.

Thus, for the industrial decor, we mainly used shades of gray, that we highlighted through adding a few plants and green accents (lichens and decorative plants), arranged in the space in a way that creates contrasts but, at the same time, respects the principles of Feng Shui – strengthening the communion of man with nature and balance. To highlight the industrial style, we used several elements. We used natural materials and chose a ceramic cladding that imitates concrete. In addition to colors, we also focused on textures, which is why we chose to upholster one of the pillars with a decorative fabric panel. We highlighted the manicure and pedicure area by placing a painting with decorative lichens. The central island area was enhanced by mirrors and plants.

Since it is a beauty salon, the design had to meet several rules. One of them, which is the most important one, was the creation of work areas. These were achieved with the help of light and mirrors without diminishing the dimensions of the space.

Since it’s a space with a relatively small surface area, we had to define the different areas to some extent. Thus, we chose a mirror divider to define the areas, which not only visually enlarges the space but also creates the impression of a larger, more expansive area. For an extra touch of color we added ochre but we limited ourselves to only a few colors so as not to visually overload the space.

Another very important element to take into account was the light, bringing liveliness and a sense of well-being to the entire space. Since it was all about a beauty salon, the lighting had to be special. Thus, we used specific lighting systems for each area. Depending on the space (diagnostic area, client pampering area, work area, manicure and pedicure area), the lighting was created in a manner that doesn’t distort the colors but improves the procedure as much as possible.

Therefore, for the Jovsky Salon we created an industrial design intertwined with the Feng Shui philosophy that implies balance. We achieved the coherence of the space by combining colors and by bringing into each area, in various shapes and shades, the five essential elements of life: wood, fire, earth, metal and water.
