Our Work – 250 sqm House in Dubai, Designed for a Family

When they get their own home, many families expect a welcoming, warm and elegant decor, not opulent, but rather minimalist. Simple lines, neutral shades, color accents and natural textures are elements that give a sense of well-being and tranquility that everyone wants in their own home. Today we present to you the design of a house in Dubai, a 250 sqm house divided into 2 levels (ground floor and first floor). The owners wanted a modern interior, with Scandinavian accents, already having an idea of the elements they wanted to be integrated into the house’s design.

The house has an area of 250 sqm divided almost equally between the ground floor and the first floor. On the ground floor we have the living area, the kitchen and a bathroom, whereas on the first floor there are 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The original layout has been preserved, as the house was already well-divided. Although quite a lot of gray furniture was used, the layout is overall warm, due to the fairly high percentage of wood and warm light.

The Kitchen

We opted for gray as the main color to break the monotony created by the chosen neutral finishes and the color of the walls. Straight lines, hidden/milled handles or push openings were the main choices for the furniture. Instead of the classic tiling, we chose white glass – it is easy to maintain and makes the transition between the base and suspended units easier. To enhance the atmosphere, we integrated a unit with open shelves in natural pal in the refrigerator area, as well as in the island area.

Living Room

The main element which is the base from which we started the living room design is the piano, which the owners wanted integrated into the design. Even though it is essentially an element that brings to mind classic interiors, it has been perfectly integrated into our decor. Thus, the modern furniture elements chosen for the TV and dining area perfectly complement this zone. For the TV area we chose a generous, gray sofa, while for a color accent we opted for a yellow armchair.

Dining Area

Talking about a transition area between the kitchen and the living room, a special element was needed to make it stand out. Thus, we chose an imposing lighting fixture, which creates an excellent focal point.

Ground Floor Hall

It is a fluid, bright space, accessorized with large paintings. We chose furniture with hidden handles specifically to keep it unobtrusive, allowing people to walk past without noticing it.

Ground Floor Bathroom

The bathroom on the ground floor was treated differently from the bathrooms on the first floor. Since it is a smaller space, we chose white, glossy finishes that reflect light and visually enlarge the space. The 3D tiles are an accent element in this space.

First Floor Hall

Due to the generous space, we transformed the upstairs hallway into a home office. Also in Scandinavian style, simple in design and color, the chosen furniture integrates perfectly into the design. For accessorizing, we also chose a few large paintings here.

Children’s Bedrooms

The first bedroom was decorated in a pink and white shades. We chose pink paint for the walls, which perfectly complements the simple, white furniture. Since the space available for the dressing room behind the door was not wide enough, we opted for a shallower but longer dressing room to cover the needs. The asymmetrically designed bookcase complements the chosen desk.

The second bedroom is a bright space with a Nordic-style decor. The reading area is present here as well – we chose a fuchsia armchair that perfectly complemented the upholstered bed. Gray is the dominant color here – both for the bed upholstery and the bookcase.

The Master Bedroom

The design was elaborated to keep the coherence of the entire house – we can notice here too Scandinavian elements combined in the most natural way with elements specific to a classic interior. For the walls we chose a more special shade – copper – which complements the decor. The gray bed and the make-up table were selected keeping the same Nordic style in mind. We chose to enhance the design with a few more special elements – the bedside tables and the mirror – elements that bring an extra elegance to the room.

Upstairs Bathrooms

Simple, elegant, in neutral colors, they perfectly complement the overall image of the arrangement. We find as main elements a stand-alone bathtub – a key element; a walk-in shower – an element that has become indispensable in the arrangements; the two washbasins. The golden mosaic used above the washbasins brings an extra detail and elegance to the space. The bathrooms on the upper floor benefit from generous spaces and lots of natural light.

The result, which reflects a balanced and pleasant environment, is in line with the owners’ expectations.

Trends: Terrazzo – What It Is and How to Use It

Terrazzo, a composite material with a long history, is back in trend. Popular especially in Europe, North Africa and America, terrazzo gives personality to the space, and the variety of colors and textures offers the possibility of placing it as a key element in several areas of the house, not just on the floor. So, if you have plans to redecorate, terrazzo will take any room out of anonymity, offering it durability and a sophisticated look – you can arrange the bathroom, kitchen, hallway or decorate a nonconformist living room using terrazzo. We have prepared a special article dedicated to this unique material.

What is terrazzo?
Terrazzo is a composite material created through a cold processing method and poured on-site. Thus, terrazzo is a mixture of cement, marble, glass and other elements (such as seashells or brass) to which inorganic pigments are added, giving it chromatic versatility. Therefore, these handmade cement tiles develop a slightly unfinished appearance that gives an extra personality to the material. As time passes, terrazzo tiles will remain just as spectacular precisely because the pattern and colors do not change due to the fact that the pigment layer in the composition of the tiles is very thick.

Terrazzo Tile Uses
Terrazzo tiles are used for wall cladding (both interior and exterior), flooring, and bathroom or kitchen countertops. Its beauty, durability, and versatility makes it easy to be integrated in a multitude of spaces, both in public areas and inside homes.

Terrazzo Tile Installation
Before its implementation, terrazzo tiles are immersed in water for a few minutes, and after drying they can be installed with a thick layer of adhesive, applied both to the tiles and to the area where they will be inserted. After installing the tile, it must be pressed by hand. The process continues until the entire desired surface is covered with terrazzo tiles. It is very important that the adhesive completely covers the tile and that no piece is left without adhesive in order to avoid cracking over time. Terrazzo tiles must dry completely before stepping on the surface where they were installed. The drying process takes approximately 48 hours.

Terrazzo Tile Maintenance
Terrazo tiles must be properly maintained if you want them to retain their unique beauty. We recommend using mild cleaning solutions that do not contain bleach, acids or other substances that can attack the surface of the tiles.

Our Work – Airbnb Apartment – Minimalist Interior with Color Accents

Minimalist interiors have a special charm, both through the simplicity of the decor and the used materials. How can you create a minimalist interior that still meets the needs and requirements of tenants or tourists? Today we present to you an apartment furnished for rent, a decor where simplicity is the keyword, a space where every corner conveys a sense of well-being.

For this apartment’s design, we chose white as the dominant color (for both furniture and walls) with warm shades of blue, turquoise and wood accent. The natural shade of wood is found both in the floor and in the furniture. We opted for simple and straightforward furniture, specific to the minimalist style.

Living room
The minimalist furniture in the living room gives a special air to the room. We chose to decorate the wall behind the sofa and the one behind the TV stand with a shade of blue to give dynamism to the space. The geometric rug and the armchair in an atypical shape are the key pieces in the room. Although white and the natural shade of wood predominate, we chose the sofa in a turquoise shade to continue the chromatic play on the wall behind it, thus keeping a harmonious look.

Bedroom
We continue the simplistic and clean note of the arrangement in the bedroom. Here too, we opted for simple furniture – a black bed and white bedside tables with wooden accents. We painted the wall behind the bed with a gray shade in order to add a special touch to the space.

Kitchen
For the kitchen, we opted for white as the dominant color, while for the furniture, we chose the shade of wood. We continued here with a splash of color, the same as the one used in the living room, on the wall that connects to the balcony.

Bathroom
Overall, the bathroom is a dynamic space thanks to the hexagon tiles on the shower wall. We chose white for the sanitary ware, but the dominant color is blue, which is found in both the living room and the kitchen.

Decorative Lichens for Walls – What They Are and How to Maintain Them

We are absolutely convinced that you have seen at least once arrangements with decorative lichens, a new trend in interior design which consists of using lichens as walls decorative elements. Decorative lichens can be placed in any room, they are suitable even for rooms where there is not enough natural light, and a very important aspect to take into account is that they are easy to maintain. Therefore, they are perfect for people who do not have enough time to water plants but still want a corner of nature in their home.

What are decorative lichens?

Lichens are living organisms that grow in the natural environment. Therefore, they cannot be cultivated in greenhouses or other controlled environments. Lichens have a very special appearance due to the fact that they are composed of a fungus and an algae, they are very resistant, they can grow in different environments and in any temperature conditions. The most used lichens in interior design are harvested from the Nordic countries near the Arctic Circle.

Usage and Implementation

When harvested, lichens are alive and fully developed, then they turn into stable organisms that retain their structure and color if they have a favorable environment. After harvesting, the lichen stems are placed in containers with special solutions based on glycerin and other natural components. The solution is absorbed until the sap is completely reduced, and the rehydration process is completed in a few days. They are then glued to a support surface with various types of adhesive, and the support is then placed in the desired interior space.

Lichens placed in interior spaces improve air quality and reduce respiratory problems, helping to reduce stress and fatigue.

After being stabilized, the lichens have a low weight, so they can be mounted on walls, suspended objects or on the ceiling. The support plates on which they are placed can be applied by gluing with specific adhesive or by fixing with screws and staples.

It is very important to note that although they partially protect the walls on which they are placed, lichens do not replace water-repellent or fire-retardant finishes. Thus, our recommendation is to mount them on a previously finished surface.

Maintenance of decorative lichens

Decorative lichens do not require special care, direct sunlight, watering or pruning. They are resistant to high temperatures and other external factors. However, they should be kept away from halogen lamps in order to avoid over-drying.

If you want to decorate your home with lichens, keep the tips above in mind and you will surely create a decor full of personality and story.

Tips and Ideas – How to Choose the Most Suitable Nightstands for Your Bedroom

Most of the time, when we talk about bedroom design, most people choose a complete set of furniture – bed, wardrobe, nightstand – that has the same shade, style and design. These arrangements are traditional, not lacking in interest, but the furniture pieces remain without personality. Therefore, we have prepared some ideas and tips meant to improve the bedroom, adding uniqueness and personality through the chosen nightstands.

Choose bedside tables based on style and design

Bedside tables have both a practical and aesthetic role. Placed on either side of the bed, bedside tables draw attention, defining and complementing the sleeping area. You can choose bedside tables that are different from the style of the room, and their color can be completely different from the bed’s one or other pieces of furniture in the bedroom. If you decorate them with a few elements so that they keep the visual coherence, the bedside tables do not even have to be identical.

Matching bedside tables with the bed? It’s not exactly a rule

The most suitable bedside tables are those that do not have the same design as the bed. For example, you can highlight the bed with bedside tables with contrasting, modern, classic, minimalist materials. Opt for wooden bedside tables, with a vintage look, if the bed is upholstered, or bedside tables with an industrial design for a classic, wooden bed. Color differences can be very easily solved with decorative pillows or other specific decorative elements.

Bedside tables or…other decorative elements

For a special charm, choose to replace the classic bedside tables with stools, chairs, or decorative ladders. You can also easily transform an old wooden crate into a charming bedside table. It will perfectly fit in a rustic, minimalist or shabby chic bedroom.

Bedside tables don’t have to be identical

You may be a little reluctant when it comes to choosing two different bedside tables to frame the bed, but we assure you that as long as the dimensions are similar and their design, shade, and material visually complement each other, the arrangement will be harmonious and the bedroom will have a special atmosphere.

Bedside tables and their role

Whatever bedside table model you choose, it must fulfill its role. Opt for a bedside table with generous storage space if you know you need it, with drawers or open shelves. A practical bedside table can take up very little space – you just have to be creative: mount shelves or racks on the wall, next to the bed, where you can keep a glass of water, a book or other small decorative objects. This way you can replace classic lamps with wall sconces.

So, the best bedside tables for your bedroom depend on your preferences and needs. Therefore, be creative and trust your aesthetic sense when decorating your bedroom, and it will become a room full of personality and charm.

Our Work – Design of a 130 sqm Apartment, Bright and Modern, with Elegant Accents

Today we are talking about the design of an apartment located in a villa built during the interwar period. With a wonderful view of the park, this apartment has a special atmosphere but also a generous usable area of 130sqm. The owners, a family with one child, with a very active lifestyle, wanted a bright, modern and elegant house. Preserving the brightness and height of the rooms, optimizing the storage space and keeping the mosaic were clear requirements from the owners. But let’s see more in the following lines!

We started the apartment renovation by replacing all the installations, we removed the parquet (implemented with the house, on a floor support, wooden beams and slag filling) and we restored the support layer. The owners did not want major structural changes because the apartment is very well compartmentalized. The only modification related to the compartmentalization consisted of demolishing the wall between the pantry and the kitchen, thus increasing the space intended for it. Thus, we kept the existing compartmentalization, changing only some of the rooms’ role and the positions of the installations.

The concept of the entire apartment renovation started from the black and white mosaic found in the hallways as well as in the kitchen, ceramic mosaic, from the interwar period, which the owners did not want to give up on. Its reconditioning represented one of the main challenges of this project: we removed the mosaic from the balcony area – an open balcony, part of the living room – and installed it in the kitchen, in the area related to the pantry, an area that has become part of the kitchen.

Living Room
The living room is open to the balcony and benefits from plenty of natural light. It is a bright room, modernly decorated with elegant accents. We opted to create borders from decorative profiles that highlight different lighting fixtures or areas in the living room.

The balcony was transformed into a relaxation area, with two bookcases running the full height of the room. One of the owners’ requirements was to create a reading space, and this was the optimal place for it.

The Master Bedroom
For the master bedroom, we opted for an elegant decor, highlighted by the wallpaper with golden accents, the decorative profiles used to decorate the walls, as well as those used for the scafes. We relied on a play of lights, generated thanks to the scafes. The colors that we used are warm, soothing shades.

The Child’s Bedroom
For this room we opted for practical, easy-to-maintain furniture that would serve all the essential roles: desk, bookcase, wardrobe. We also created a reading and relaxation area here by the window – due to the orientation towards the park. We chose turquoise paint for the blackboard on one of the walls so as to create a point of interest and attraction.

The Office
Open to the living room area, the office was decorated in a modern style, with elegant accents. In this space we relied on light accents – LEDs in the sconces. The office fulfills several functions: home office area, guest room (thanks to the extendable sofa) and relaxation area – games on TV or watching movies with the family.

The kitchen
Although small and cramped at first, after the re-compartmentation it became a generous kitchen, in which all the necessary appliances and storage were perfectly fitted. Thus, we opted for creating a wall of soldiers – to incorporate the refrigerator, oven, boiler and to benefit from as many storage spaces as possible. As a chromatic scheme, we opted for white with turquoise accents and natural wood. The floor was redesigned and enhanced with the mosaic pattern from the balcony.

Bathroom
Although the apartment is generous in size, it has only one bathroom, and not a very large one. The owners wanted a generous walk-in shower, a stand-alone bathtub, a washbasin with a generous countertop and a storage unit, all in 6 square meters. We chose a glossy, marbled tile, in accordance with the elegant style of the house. From the chosen tile, we made a mosaic for the walk-in shower area. We chose to make a mirror along the entire length of the washbasin unit to create the illusion of a much more larger space.

Hallways
We chose to highlight the hallways by preserving and refurbishing the mosaic. We created elegant spaces through the decorative borders used and the decorative LED light strips that add extra elegance to the space.

We tried to preserve as much of the house’s interwar charm as possible – we kept and reconditioned the mosaic and parquet, and opted for classic scafa shapes as well as for decorative profiles.

Tips and Tricks – Types and Styles of Tiles for Bathroom Design

Bathroom design can be a real challenge, especially when you want a good budget and a spectacular result. There are a variety of bathroom designs and many tile and floor tile designs, all of this making it difficult for us to make the right choice.

Tiles occupy the largest surface area and create the first impression when you enter the bathroom. That is why tiles represent the main expense when it comes to decorating a bathroom. Therefore, we have prepared some tips and ideas for choosing bathroom tile models and types.

Natural stone – in addition to its refined appearance, natural stone has the advantage of being a sustainable and resistant material. Whether you choose granite, marble or natural stone, choose a single predominant type of stone not to overload the walls and to maintain a pleasant aesthetic. You can also keep a single color for the entire space or opt for color accents (dark shades in certain areas of the bathroom and lighter in other areas).

Mosaic – it is fascinating for the way it reflects light, but also for the small pieces in various shades that you can combine in different ways. You can opt for ceramic, stone or glass mosaic, depending on the style you want to reflect in the bathroom. Mosaic is a very good choice if you want to decorate a small bathroom because it visually increases the space, giving the feeling that the room is more generous in size than it actually is.

Metallic look ceramic tiles – extremely versatile and hygienic, metal is perfect for bathroom design. Depending on how it is integrated, metallic look ceramic tiles offer a sophisticated and elegant touch or, on the contrary, an industrial air. Metallic look ceramic tiles are extremely resistant and durable. With the help of regular metallic look ceramic tiles you can create a three-dimensional effect or a subtle relief, but with the help of metallic mosaic the walls will get a sculptural look and will leave its mark on the entire space. For a maximized effect, choose a built-in lighting system that illuminates the metallic composition vertically.

Our Work – Design of a 4-Bedroom Apartment in Dubai, Bright and with Color Accents

When you want to redecorate a home, it is good to keep simplicity in mind, especially if the natural look and the light reflect your main interest. There are a few tricks that you can use in order to achieve a relaxing space, more light and a welcoming interior. A combination of warm color finishes, simple furniture and the use of the same accent color in several rooms are some options that can help you achieve the arrangement you want. Today we would like to showcase the arrangement of a 4-bedroom apartment located in Dubai, where we applied the simplicity and the directions mentioned in the lines above so that the final result would reflect a relaxing space, a modern and airy interior with accents of color and light, in line with the dynamic personality of the owners.

Since the visual overload of the space was not desired, we chose white as the furniture’s dominant shade, with warm brown accents and a few vibrant colors in the key points of the apartment. To chromatically highlight the explosion of light and white, we opted for natural triple-layered parquet, modern but offering style and elegance.

The apartment has two hallways with generous areas where we were able to fit enough storage spaces. Therefore, the whole concept of the arrangement began with the hallway, which starts the composition, decorated with compact furniture without handles, furniture that seems to be a whole part of the wall. To improve it, we used a glass door for the entrance to the kitchen. In addition, we added a double door with glazed spaces between the living room and the hallway. We chose to highlight the small hallway through decorative wall cladding, with light accents given by the LED strips.

For the kitchen, we chose a minimalist layout, without open spaces, with furniture that includes all the necessary appliances. Instead of classic tiles, we opted for white, heat-resistant glass, used to finish the area between the countertop and the suspended units. In order not to visually clutter the space, choosing a table with a glass top was the best option.

The simple and minimalist note continues in the living room. The white walls and furniture give the room a clean and modern air. Complementing them with the laminated wood flooring that further highlights the neutral tones of the furniture was a great choice. Another key element in this regard would be the lighting. This was designed according to the specific functions of each room. We opted for a geometric TV composition, which adds dynamism to the space and perfectly reflects the concept of modern interior design.

The bedroom was designed as a light and relaxing space, decorated in neutral tones. The natural texture of the laminated parquet continues here. The atmosphere is spacious and airy thanks to the mirrors applied to the dressing room. The chosen bed is one with a textile finish and storage spaces, while the wall that rises behind it gives an extra dynamism through the colored vertical. The classic lamps were replaced by two wall lamps positioned to the left and right of the headboard.

The office includes the same warm tones, straight lines and color accents for the textile surfaces. Designed as a workspace for two people, it integrates perfectly into the interior design, being a warm and light-filled room, perfect for a working day at home.

The last room was thought of as a gaming and relaxation space. The furniture in simple, minimalist shapes fitting very well into the design concept. In the window area, we created a divan with storage spaces under it, perfect for a relaxation or reading area.

The relaxing space can also be found in the large bathroom, decorated and finished in harmony with the rest of the apartment. We opted for rectified finishes, wood-look tiles, combined with simple, beige tiles. The wood look continues on the floor, through the chosen tiles. The built-in bathtub and composite washbasin are perfectly complemented by the recessed faucets.

For the small bathroom, we chose finishes with the same ceramic tile patterns: plain beige tiles combined with wood-look tiles. To visually enlarge the space, we chose to place a mirror on the entire wall above the washbasin.

In conclusion, we created a relaxing yet dynamic space, opting for a neutral color scheme, simple, predominantly white furniture, and colorful accents.
